Header and footer
The header, the announcement bar above it and the two footer sections are section groups: they appear on every page, and you edit them from any page in the theme editor.
Announcement bar
Section titled “Announcement bar”Sits above the header. Color scheme, Auto-rotate announcements, Change every (3–10 s).
Announcement blocks: Text and an optional Link. With two or more, the bar rotates and shows arrows; with one, it is simply a line of text.
Keep announcements short enough to fit a phone in one line. This is also the right place for the shipping promise that otherwise ends up in the hero.
Header
Section titled “Header”| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Color scheme | |
| Logo position (desktop) | Left or Center. |
| Menu | The navigation menu, from Content → Menus. Submenus become dropdowns; a third level becomes a nested list. |
| Sticky on scroll | The header stays at the top of the screen. |
| Transparent over the first section on the home page | White text and icons over your hero until the page scrolls. Best with a full-width hero or slideshow with no top padding. |
| Logo on transparent header | Optional, a light version of the logo for photographs. |
| Show search icon | Opens the search drawer with predictive results. |
| Customer account menu | Links shown in the account sheet. Appears when customer accounts are enabled. |
| Show cart icon |
The account icon itself is Shopify’s own account component, so it always matches the customer accounts your store has turned on. It follows the theme’s colours and button shape automatically.
On phones the menu opens as a drawer, with submenus sliding in one level at a time.
Mega menu
Section titled “Mega menu”Add a Mega menu block to the header for a full-width dropdown.
Each mega menu has a Menu item — the title of the top-level menu item it opens, for example “Shop”. The panel opens full width even when that item has no sub-links. Items without a mega menu open an ordinary dropdown.
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Menu item | The top-level menu item’s title. |
| Menu columns per row | 1–6. More columns wrap onto the next row. |
| Cards per row | 1–6. |
| Cards layout | Grid — more cards wrap onto the next row. Carousel — the others scroll in with arrows or a swipe. |
Then add blocks, in the order you want them. Menu columns sit on the left, cards on the right:
| Block | Settings |
|---|---|
| Menu column | Heading, Heading link, Menu (only the menu’s top-level links are shown), Use the menu’s title as heading (when the heading is empty). Without any Menu column block, the menu item’s own sub-links are shown instead. |
| Promo tile | Image, Heading, Text, Link. |
| Collection card | Collection, Heading (defaults to the collection’s title), Show product count. |
| Product card | Product — shown with its image and price. |
Add a second Mega menu block to give another top-level item its own panel.
Search drawer
Section titled “Search drawer”Not a section you add — it is always there behind the search icon. Its own settings are Color scheme, Quick links (a menu shown under the field before anyone types, e.g. popular collections) and Quick links heading.
Predictive search returns matching products and suggested searches as the customer types.
Footer
Section titled “Footer”The footer is two sections inside one landmark: Footer (the columns) and Footer bottom bar (the line underneath).
Footer
Section titled “Footer”Color scheme and Column headings (Small capitals or Regular).
Blocks:
| Block | Settings |
|---|---|
| Brand | Style: Logo (first column) or Large wordmark (full row). Logo (defaults to Theme settings → Branding; without a logo, the store name), Logo width, Name (defaults to the store name), Text. |
| Menu | Heading and a Menu. One block per column. |
| Text | Heading and Text — opening hours, a studio address, a note about lead times. |
| Newsletter | Heading, Text, Submit button (Text or Arrow), Button label. |
| Social | Heading. Shows the profiles from Theme settings → Social. |
Footer bottom bar
Section titled “Footer bottom bar”A single row of small blocks. Color scheme, Alignment (Left or Center), Show divider line above, Badge height.
| Block | Settings |
|---|---|
| Copyright and policies | Show store policy links (written in Settings → Policies), Show “Powered by Shopify”. |
| Country and language | Style (Compact dropdown or Form with labels), Show country / currency selector (from Settings → Markets), Show language selector (from Settings → Languages). |
| Payment icons | Shows the payment methods turned on in Settings → Payments. |
| Follow on Shop | Lets customers follow your store in the Shop app. Shop Pay must be turned on. |
| Social | The profiles from Theme settings → Social. |
| Badge | Image, Link, Label — the label describes the image for screen readers and is shown as text when no image is set. For a certification, a trade body, or a national consumer-protection logo. |
| Menu | A menu’s top-level links in one line. |
| Link | A single Label and Link. |
| Spacer | Pushes the blocks after it to the right end of the bar. On phones it starts a new line. |
The usual arrangement: Copyright and policies, then a Spacer, then Country and language and Payment icons.
