FAQ
Setting up
Section titled “Setting up”How do I change the preset after installing?
Section titled “How do I change the preset after installing?”Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings, then the style picker at the top of the panel. Switching replaces colour schemes, fonts, spacing, button, field and card settings. It does not change your sections, templates or content.
Duplicate the theme first (Themes → … → Duplicate) if you want a way back — a preset switch cannot be undone with Ctrl-Z.
Can I mix presets — Halo’s colours with Plinth’s spacing?
Section titled “Can I mix presets — Halo’s colours with Plinth’s spacing?”Yes. A preset is only a set of theme settings; once applied, every setting is yours to change. Apply the preset whose colours you want, then set Spacing scale, Card style and the type settings by hand.
Does the theme need any apps?
Section titled “Does the theme need any apps?”No. Two things in the theme use Shopify’s own free Search & Discovery app, because that is where Shopify keeps them: product filters and complementary product recommendations. Everything else — including every feature in the listing — works with no app installed.
My store is not in English. Does the theme translate?
Section titled “My store is not in English. Does the theme translate?”The theme ships with English and Romanian. For other languages, add the language in Settings → Languages and translate it with Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app (free) or any translation app — all of the theme’s text comes from translation files, so it is translatable without touching code.
One thing to change by hand: Theme settings → Product cards → Badges → Product tag for the New badge is a tag you type on products, so set it to the word you actually use.
The 3D spotlight
Section titled “The 3D spotlight”Why does the 3D spotlight section not appear on my store?
Section titled “Why does the 3D spotlight section not appear on my store?”Because the product you selected has no 3D model. The section renders only inside the theme editor in that case, with a note — so your storefront never shows an empty “3D spotlight”.
Upload a .glb file to the product’s Media in the admin, or pick a different product. Step by
step: 3D spotlight.
Where do I get a GLB file?
Section titled “Where do I get a GLB file?”Export it from whatever you modelled the piece in — Blender, Fusion 360, Onshape, Rhino all export GLB. If the piece was never modelled (a scan, a thrown pot), there is nothing to export: use the Featured product section or a video instead.
The model takes a second to appear.
Section titled “The model takes a second to appear.”That is by design. Neither Shopify’s 3D viewer nor your model file is downloaded when the page loads — they arrive when the section is scrolled to, or when the visitor presses the button, as set by Load the 3D viewer. It is why a home page with a 3D section is as fast as one without.
A lighter file shortens the wait: aim for under 5 MB.
My model is lying on its side, or it is enormous.
Section titled “My model is lying on its side, or it is enormous.”It was exported that way. The theme does not rotate or rescale models — fix it in your 3D software and upload again.
Size reference and the spec sheet
Section titled “Size reference and the spec sheet”Why is my size drawing / spec sheet empty?
Section titled “Why is my size drawing / spec sheet empty?”Because the product has no measurements. Both blocks read product metafields, and both render nothing at all when there is no data — not an empty frame.
Three steps: create the definitions (Settings → Custom data → Products, type Dimension), fill them in on your products, and connect the block’s fields to them with the dynamic source icon in the theme editor. Full walkthrough: Metafields.
Can I write the measurements straight into the block instead?
Section titled “Can I write the measurements straight into the block instead?”Yes — type them in the Width / Height / Depth fields. But then every product using that template shows the same measurements, which is only useful if you have one product. The metafield route is the one that scales.
Do I have to fill in all three dimensions?
Section titled “Do I have to fill in all three dimensions?”No. Give what you have: three draws a box, two draws a flat rectangle, one draws a single dimension line. Nothing at all hides the block.
What units does it accept?
Section titled “What units does it accept?”12.5 cm, 12,5 cm, 125 mm, 0.5 in, or a bare 125 which uses the block’s Unit setting.
A unit inside the value always wins. A Dimension metafield carries its own unit, which is why it
is the recommended type.
Collections and filters
Section titled “Collections and filters”Why do I have no filters on my collection pages?
Section titled “Why do I have no filters on my collection pages?”Filters are Shopify’s, not the theme’s. Install the free Search & Discovery app, open Filters, and add the ones you want — availability, price, product type, options, metafields. The theme draws whatever you configure there.
With no filters configured, Enable filtering has nothing to draw and the bar shows sorting only.
Can I show the filters in a sidebar instead of a drawer?
Section titled “Can I show the filters in a sidebar instead of a drawer?”Collection section → Filter layout on desktop: Vertical (sidebar), Horizontal (above products) or Drawer. Phones and tablets always use the drawer.
Is there infinite scroll?
Section titled “Is there infinite scroll?”No — the collection and search pages are paginated, so a customer can bookmark or share a particular page and come back to it. Products per page is 8–36.
Badges and product cards
Section titled “Badges and product cards”How do I put badges on my products?
Section titled “How do I put badges on my products?”All in one place: Theme settings → Product cards → Badges.
| Badge | How it appears |
|---|---|
| Sale | Sale badge: save percentage, save amount, or just “Sale”. Driven by the compare-at price. |
| Sold out | Show sold out badge. |
| New | Tag the product with the word in Product tag for the New badge (default new). |
| Made to order | Show made to order badge. Appears on variants that are out of stock with “Continue selling when out of stock” on. |
The badges then show on every product card in the store, and on the product page if you add the Badges block.
Can I make my own badge — “Limited run”, “Last one”?
Section titled “Can I make my own badge — “Limited run”, “Last one”?”Not as a badge. Use the product page’s Text block (styled as an uppercase label) for a line of your own, or a Collapsible row. Custom badges per product would need a metafield-driven badge system, which the theme does not have.
My made-to-order badge shows no number of days.
Section titled “My made-to-order badge shows no number of days.”Production time in the badge settings is empty, and the product has no custom.made_days
metafield. Fill in either one.
Why does the card say “Made to order” and not “Sold out”?
Section titled “Why does the card say “Made to order” and not “Sold out”?”Because the variant is out of stock with “Continue selling when out of stock” turned on — which is exactly how you tell Shopify that you will make one. Turn that off for pieces you genuinely cannot make again.
Performance
Section titled “Performance”Will this theme pass Lighthouse / Core Web Vitals?
Section titled “Will this theme pass Lighthouse / Core Web Vitals?”The theme is built to, and it is measured on every release: the Theme Store requires an average performance score of at least 60 and accessibility of at least 90 across the home, product and collection pages, on desktop and mobile.
What you add is the other half. The three things that cost the most, in order:
- Heavy images. Keep a hero under 500 KB and a product photograph under 400 KB. Export at the size you need; do not upload a 4000 px photograph.
- Apps. Every app that injects a script runs on your customers’ phones. An app you stopped using but did not uninstall still costs you.
- Autoplaying video on the home page, and more than two web fonts.
The theme’s own weight does not change with the number of sections you add, but each section’s images do.
Does the layer-by-layer image animation slow the page down?
Section titled “Does the layer-by-layer image animation slow the page down?”No. The first image on a page — the largest one, the one Google measures — is never hidden, never delayed and never animated. The effect only applies to images further down the page, as they scroll into view, and it is one CSS property, not a script redrawing anything.
Can I turn all the animation off?
Section titled “Can I turn all the animation off?”Theme settings → Animations → Enable scroll & hover animations off. That stops every reveal and hover effect in the theme. Image reveal → None turns off only the print reveal and keeps the rest.
Visitors whose own device asks for reduced motion get no animation regardless of your setting.
Updating and support
Section titled “Updating and support”How do I update the theme?
Section titled “How do I update the theme?”Shopify applies bug and security fixes automatically; they never change your look, content or settings. Feature updates you start yourself, from the update notification on the theme’s version number in Online Store → Themes:
- Save a copy of any code you edited.
- Choose Add to draft themes — your published theme is untouched; the update arrives as a draft.
- Your theme editor work (settings, templates, sections, blocks) comes across automatically. Code edits come across only where they do not conflict; the theme card tells you.
- Check the draft, then publish.
I edited the code. Will I lose my changes?
Section titled “I edited the code. Will I lose my changes?”Not on your published theme — it is not modified. But a code change that conflicts with the update will not be carried into the new version, and you will have to reapply it. Save a copy before you update, and keep a note of what you changed and why.
Something is broken. What do you need from me?
Section titled “Something is broken. What do you need from me?”Your store’s URL, the page it happens on, what you expected, what happened, which browser and device, and — if the store is password-protected — the password. A screenshot or a short screen recording usually saves a round trip. See Support.
Can you make a change to the theme for me?
Section titled “Can you make a change to the theme for me?”Small theme questions and bugs are support. Custom development is not included in the price of a theme — that is a Shopify rule, not our preference. Support explains where the line is and what we can suggest instead.
